Comparison data available on blend analyzers

Wilks Enterprise announced the availability of comparison data done by independent laboratories on its InfraCal Ethanol and Biodiesel Blend Analyzers and InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer. The InfraCal Ethanol Blend Analyzer was tested against an Oxygenate Flame Ionization Detector (O-FID) with comparable results. The InfraCal Biodiesel Blend Analyzer and InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer were compared to an FT-IR using EN 14078 and ASTM 7371 methods. AFA to acquire Integrated Biodiesel Industries

Netspace International Holding Inc., trading on the Pink Sheets as NSIH, announced May 18 that its wholly owned subsidiary, Alternative Fuels Americas, has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire Integrated Biodiesel Industries of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Alternative Fuels Americas is a biodiesel consolidation company seeking to acquire companies at every phase of the biodiesel cycle, instituting operational efficiencies and reducing the cost of biodiesel.READ MORE

Renewable diesel plant in La. nearly complete

Construction of the 75-MMgy Dynamic Fuels renewable diesel plant in Geismar, La., not far from Baton Rouge, is nearing completion, according to Jeff Bigger, Syntroleum Corp.'s senior vice president and director of the Dynamic Fuels management committee. Dynamic Fuels LLC is a 50/50 joint venture between Tyson Foods Inc. and Syntroleum. The facility will use Syntroleum's trademarked Bio-Synfining process to convert low-cost feedstocks to renewable diesel fuel, with coproduction of naphtha and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Tyson Foods' experience in applied protein-chemistry will come into play for pre-processing and optimizing the feedstock mix, which will consist of the food giant's large byproduct stream of beef tallow, pork lard, chicken fat and various greases, for best possible conversion to fuel.READ MORE

An American industry struggles for existence

The National Biodiesel Board hosted a Webinar May 13 featuring four biodiesel producers and NBB CEO Joe Jobe discussing the severe damage to American biodiesel companies, and local economies, resulting directly from the lapse of the federal biodiesel tax credit more than four months ago. The message was sad, listening to hard-working Americans being forced by Congress' inaction to lay off employees and shutter domestic biofuel refineries while one of the most environmentally and economically disastrous oil spills in American history unfolds in the Gulf of Mexico; as Americans fight and die overseas to protect us from extremists in those countries on which we are most dependent for crude oil.READ MORE
