Jobe, Blunt promote biodiesel tax credit

Iowa lab becomes the first-ever BQ-9000 site

The Iowa Central Fuel Testing Laboratory is the first to reach gold. The Fort Dodge-based facility is now the first-ever BQ-9000 accredited laboratory after completing roughly ten months of certification. Overseen by the Independent National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission, BQ-9000 is a voluntary, gold standard fuel assurance program for producers and marketers. For a producer, the program means the production company is using the system to monitor the quality of their biodiesel, including: sampling, testing, storage, retain samples and shipping.READ MORE Biodiesel Magazine

REG celebrates reopening of Seneca plant

Renewable Energy Group Inc. will celebrate the grand reopening of its Seneca, Ill-based biodiesel plant on Aug. 12. The 60 MMgy facility was acquired by REG in April after its original owner, Nova Biosource Fuels Inc., filed for bankruptcy.READ MORE

Best BioDiesel Cashton plant shuts down

Best BioDiesel Cashton LLC, a subsidiary of Madison, Wis.-based Best Energies Inc., shut down operations at its 8 MMgy facility in Cashton, Wis., citing the lapse of the federal blender tax credit as the determining factor behind the decision.READ MORE

Jatropha R&D center planned for San Diego

Bioenergy crop company SG Biofuels Inc. recently announced plans to establish a jatropha research and development center in San Diego. The center will include a 42,000 square-foot greenhouse, world class laboratory facilities and a team of molecular biologists. According to Brian Brokowski, SB Biofuels' vice president of marketing and communications, the facility is expected to be operational this fall.READ MORE

ADM, BIOX Corp. report quarterly earnings

Decatur, Ill.-based agri-business giant Archer Daniels Midland Co. posted solid quarterly earnings on Aug. 3, as improved demand and stronger margins in oilseeds and corn processing boosted results. Canadian biodiesel producer BIOX Corp. also released financial results in August, noting that methyl ester production for its third quarter increased when compared to its production level for the same period last year.READ MORE

Kerry unveils new biodiesel tax extension bill

The Senate has left for August recess, but the biodiesel tax credit extension is still sweating it out in Washington. While the fate biodiesel tax amendment's inclusion in the Small Business Bill is unclear, new legislation introduced by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., would extend the tax credit for biodiesel and renewable diesel retroactively for 2010 and through 2012.READ MORE
