Renewable Energy Group files registration statement for IPO


REG today announced that it has filed a registration statement on Form S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of shares of its common stock. Share numbers and prices have not been determined.

Sao Paulo to fuel 160 city buses with Amyris' renewable diesel


Beginning in August, the buses will run on a 10 percent blend of Amyris renewable diesel, with the rest made up of biodiesel and petroleum diesel supplied by Petrobras Distribuidora. Amyris' supply contract with Petrobras extends through 2012.

European Commission announces new voluntary schemes under RED


The EC announced the recognition of seven voluntary schemes for sustainable biofuels on July 19. According to the Commission, there is a need to guarantee that biofuels used in the EU deliver tangible greenhouse gas savings compared to fossil fuels.

DOE gives $9 million for sugar-to-diesel process improvements


LS9 Inc. and partner HCL CleanTech Ltd. have been awarded a $9 million grant from the U.S. DOE to improve and demonstrate an integrated process to convert biomass feedstocks into fermentable sugars, and then subsequently into diesel and chemicals.

SIPI students win award for algae biofuel project


A team of students at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute has been awarded first place in the 2011 Renewable Energy Challenge Competition with its algae biofuel project. The Bureau of Indian Affairs and Argonne lab sponsored the competition.

Collective Biofuels Conference returns, heads to Vancouver Island


The Collective Biodiesel Conference is back Aug. 5-7 with a new venue, Duncan, Vancouver Island, Canada, just a two-hour ferry ride north of Seattle, and a new name: the Collective Biofuels Conference. The keynote is Lyle Estill of Piedmont Biofuels.

Neste Oil expands input stream to include jatropha, camelina


Neste Oil said it plans to use jatropha and camelina oils to produce its NExBTL renewable diesel fuel. With this, the company intends to increase the proportion of nonfood materials grown on land less suited for food crops as feedstock for NExBTL.

Michigan airports to lease land for energy crop production


The Wayne County Airport Authority is the operator of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport and the Willow Run Airport, each using more than 1 million gallons of fuel daily in planes and ground equipment. On 1,700 acres, the authority plans to grow fuel.

Hino Trucks approves B20 for 2011-'12 model trucks


Novi, Mich.-based Hino Trucks, a Toyota company, has approved B20 in its complete product line of all 2011 and 2012 model year class 4 and 5 cab-over and class 6 and 7 conventional trucks powered exclusively with Hino's proprietary J-Series engines.
