US, Argentina surge in world biodiesel production rankings


A report conducted by Santiago & Sinclair, a Texas-based renewable energy consultant group with offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina, forecasted that Argentina will become the world's third largest biodiesel producer, with the U.S. surging to No. 2.

Federal court issues temporary injunction against Calif. LCFS


On Dec. 29, Judge Lawrence O'Neill of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California issued a ruling preventing the California Air Resources Board from enforcing the state's low carbon fuels standard (LCFS) during pending litigation.

Evogene forms subsidiary to expand castor bean activity in Brazil


Israel-based Evogene Ltd. has launched a subsidiary, Evofuel Ltd., to accelerate development and commercialization of castor bean varieties in Brazil for biodiesel and biojet fuel production, as well as to expand biofuel R&D activities in Isreal.

American Soybean Association highlights 2011 accomplishments


The ASA recently highlighted accomplishments it made in policy and advocacy, and domestic and international use of soy. It noted that the joint effort to extend the biodiesel credit at the end of 2010 spurred record industry production in 2011.

Gushan announces significant drop in biodiesel production


Chinese biodiesel producer Gushan Environmental Energy Ltd. recently announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2011, showing that the company's biodiesel sales volume has decreased by 94 percent since the same quarter last year.

New Leaf Biofuel to supply biodiesel to San Diego school buses


San Diego-based New Leaf Biofuel has forged an agreement with the San Diego Unified School District to supply biodiesel to its fleet of more than 500 buses through the city's intergovernmental fuel contract by the end of the 2014-'15 school year.
