Vilsack talks biodiesel in Hawaii, plans to close USDA offices


Vilsack noted the naval base became the first Hawaii military marine fleet to use biodiesel in 2009 when it replaced 20-year-old Navy-operated tour boats with five new boats that can run on B100. Hawaii-based Pacific Biodiesel Inc. supplies the fuel.

Crude glycerin burner for heat, power undergoes testing at NCSU


Applied Combustion Technologies licensed a patent-pending technology developed at NCSU that combusts crude glycerol in a burner for industrial heat and power applications. A DOE grant is helping mature the technology and cover testing in Raleigh.

US EPA publishes direct final rule for camelina RFS2 pathway


On Jan. 5, the U.S. EPA issued a direct final rule regarding RFS2 pathways for four new biofuel feedstocks, including camelina oil, energy cane, giant reed and napiergrass. The camelina pathway applies specifically to biodiesel and renewable diesel.
