FBI raids Cima Green, US House investigates EPA on RFS2 handling


On the same day that federal agents occupied offices of biodiesel trading company Cima Green Energy Services in New Jersey May 24, the House energy and commerce committee sent a letter to the U.S. EPA stating that the agency is being investigated.

U. of Idaho's Biodiesel Tech Note addresses ultrasonic technology


The tech note states that ultrasound has been shown to be a useful tool in the mixing of liquids that tend to separate. Ultrasonic waves mix the fluids at a micro-level, which can vastly increase reaction rates. Users also claim less catalyst use.

Midwest pennycress harvest enhances biodiesel diversity


Pennycress grows wild in the Midwest, and the plant contains oilseeds that yield 36 percent oil when crushed. An acre would yield the equivalent of about 80 gallons of oil. Illinois farmer Brad Glenn is finishing harvesting his crop this week.

Senate armed services committee approves anti-biofuel amendments


On May 24 the Senate Committee on Armed Services completed the markup of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2013. The bill authorizes funding for the Department of Defense and the national security programs of the U.S. DOE.

W2 Energy purchases Agri-Green Biodiesel, assumes corporate debt


W2 Energy Inc. has announced the completed purchase of Fernie, British Columbia-based Agri-Green Biodiesel Inc. W2 Energy originally signed a letter of intent to purchase a 60 percent interest in the company in May 2010, but instead purchased it all.

Evogene, T6 Industrial partner on castor trials in Argentina


Israel-based Evogene Ltd. has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Evofuel Ltd. has entered into a collaboration agreement with Argentinian biodiesel producer T6 Industrial S.A. for the development of castor bean seeds and biodiesel feedstock.

OSA speaks out against auditor's suggestion to use less biodiesel


In response to Ohio's auditor Dave Yost's recommendations that the state can save money by using less biodiesel, the Ohio Soybean Association says biodiesel's many benefits far outweigh the slight cost premium the state pays for its homegrown fuel.

Defense authorization bill could cut military biofuel initiatives


In mid-May the U.S. House approved a $642 billion defense authorization bill that includes provisions to undermine military efforts to reduce dependence on foreign oil. It would prohibit the defense department from developing advanced biofuels.
