EBB worried doubtful ILUC science still central to EU policy

Researchers make biodiesel, filtration media from coffee grounds


University of Cincinnati researchers extracted oil from used coffee grounds to make biodiesel, then dried the remnant grounds and used them to filter impurities in biodiesel in a purification step, followed by burning the material for electricity.

US clean diesel auto sales increase 41 percent in August


August was a robust month for passenger vehicle sales in the U.S. and clean diesel and hybrid cars were no exception, with diesels showing a 41.8 percent increase compared to August 2012 and hybrids experiencing a 38.1 percent increase.

Bently Biofuels acquires Bay Area grease collection company


In August, Nevada-based biodiesel producer Bently Biofuels Co. expanded its used cooking oil collection program by purchasing the assets of Got Grease?, a Bay Area waste oil and grease trap pumping company, adding about 12 jobs to the area.

Bill signed requiring NYC municipal fleet to use biodiesel blends


The new law, signed by Mayor Mike Bloomberg Sept. 4, requires use of B5 by 2014 and B20 by 2016, during the warm weather months. The bill also calls for the city to conduct a pilot program to study the feasibility of using B20 year-round.
