A chemical engineering research group in Bilbao, Spain, is working on a project that seeks to encourage the use of acetal-blended biodiesel in order to improve the fuel's properties. The idea is to produce acetals more easily and cheaply.

UFOP funds project for B100 approval in Deutz Agripower engines


The Deutz Agripower engines of the series TCD 7.8 L6, TCD 6.1 L6 and TCD 4.1 L4 can be approved for operation with biodiesel as a pure fuel. This is the result of the project successfully completed by Deutz AG, funded by Germany's UFOP.

New study: Algae biofuel cuts CO2 emissions by up to 68 percent


Algae-derived biofuel can reduce life-cycle CO2 emissions by 50 to 70 percent compared to petroleum fuels, and is approaching a similar energy return on investment (EROI) as conventional petroleum, according to a new peer-reviewed paper.

US soybean oil demand gets big boost from biodiesel industry


To meet federal biodiesel-usage requirements of 1.28 billion gallons this year, manufacturers will need 9 billion pounds of vegetable oils and animal fats. At least 4.8 billion pounds of that could be soybean oil from 430 million bushels.

Appeals court upholds Calif. LCFS, vacates preliminary injunction


The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that California's low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) program is constitutional, overturning a prior ruling that it violates interstate commerce laws. The court published its opinion on Sept. 18.
