A new consensus report from the Coordinating Research Council adds to the growing evidence in support of biodiesel as a low carbon fuel. Key conclusions from this report show that carbon emissions from biofuels are declining relative to petroleum.

Bill intro'd to reform, extend biodiesel tax credit through 2019


Legislation was introduced May 13 by Reps. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., and Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., to extend the biodiesel tax incentive through 2019 and reform it as a domestic production credit. The NBB and ASA are encouraged by the measure.

The National Biodiesel Board announced May 5 that its CEO Joe Jobe has left the organization to pursue other opportunities after nearly 20 years of service. The NBB will begin the search for a permanent replacement immediately.

Spain's capital city purchases 51 B100-compatible hybrid buses


Sweden-based Scania AB announced that in June it will begin to deliver 51 hybridized Scania Citywide buses to Spain's capital city of Madrid. The company says the buses are compatible with up to 100 percent biodiesel or renewable diesel.

Profile: FPL achieves key emissions reductions with biodiesel


Florida Power & Light's journey to revolutionize its fleet started in 2006. Today, FPL purchases more than 500,000 gallons of B100 annually for its 1,840 biodiesel-powered vehicles. FPL's fleet runs primarily on B20 but it uses blends up to B35.

EPA honors biodiesel champs: Harvard U. and Medford, NJ, schools


U.S. EPA honored two long-time biodiesel leaders for their outstanding commitment to the environment, including a carbon reduction strategy fueled by biodiesel. The EPA recognized Harvard University and Medford Township Public Schools in New Jersey.

White House OMB reviewing EPA rule to amend RFS program


The U.S. EPA delivered a proposed rule to amend the RFS to the White House Office of Management and Budget on May 10. The rule is titled Renewables Enhancement and Growth Support Rule. OMB is already reviewing the proposed 2018 biodiesel RVO.

Eugene con man sentenced in $1.4 million biodiesel fraud scheme


U.S. District Court Judge Anna J. Brown sentenced Jack Holden, 76, of Eugene, Oregon, to 87 months in prison, restitution of $1,410,760, and a special assessment of $1,500 for his role in a fraudulent biodiesel scheme that spanned three continents.

Genscape tracks Australian biodiesel landing in Houston


Genscape Vesseltracker identified a shipment of 1.3 million gallons of biodiesel from Australia arriving to the Houston area April 27. The event is newsworthy since U.S. EIA data show no U.S. imports of biodiesel from Australia since January 2013.
