Big Oil petitions US EPA to redefine obligated party under RFS


Big Oil's industry association AFPM filed a petition for rulemaking with EPA asking the agency to move the point of obligation under the RFS to the owner of hydrocarbons at the rack, which is the same point where fuel excise taxes are are collected.

New Zealand's first commercial biodiesel plant prepares to open


Z Energy, a $26 million biodiesel processing facility in New Zealand, has begun the commissioning phase at its 5.3 MMgy plant in Wiri, Auckland. On Aug. 2, the company received its first feedstock delivery. Production is expected by month's end.

Evonik recently completed a significant capacity expansion at its sodium methylate plant in Mobile, Alabama. The company has increased capacity from 60,000 to 72,000 metric tons per year through operational excellence and infrastructure investments.

German biodiesel quality at best it's ever been


AGQM released its annual report on the biodiesel quality of its members for 2015. The organization stated that, for the first time in its history, all biodiesel samples analyzed were on spec and met the requirements of DIN EN 14214.

US Navy completes sea trial with 100 percent renewable diesel


For the first time ever a Navy ship has operated on a 100 percent drop-in renewable diesel fuel. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s Self Defense Test Ship completed final-phase testing of the renewable diesel branded ReadiDiesel.

REG Q2 revenue up 49.4 percent, surpassing half a billion dollars


Q2 revenue was $558.3 million. The company sold 150.1 million gallons of fuel, 56.2 percent more gallons of fuel than Q2 2015 resulting in an increase in revenue of 49.4 percent. It also increased ownership in Petrotec to more than 90 percent.

Scientists at the EC's Joint Research Centre have developed and produced a new certified reference material for the cold filter plugging point (CFPP) and cloud point (CP) temperatures of biodiesel, which are important parameters for biodiesel use.

Albertsons Companies increases biodiesel use for truck fleets


Since 2010, some of Albertsons Companies' Safeway, Vons and Pavilions stores in California have been recycling used cooking oil by converting it to biodiesel to fuel its truck fleets. Its biodiesel use has increased 50 percent in the past five years.

370 million D4 RINs, 1.7 billion total RINs, generated in June


Nearly 370 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first six months of the year to 1.63 billion. Most, 1.32 billion, have been generated for biodiesel, with 319.46 million for renewable diesel.
