Censky confirmed as new USDA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture


Longtime CEO of the American Soybean Association, Steve Censky, was confirmed by the Senate Oct. 3 as the new Deputy Secretary of Agriculture at USDA. Censky, who has led the ASA as CEO since 1996, was nominated by President Donald Trump in July.

Cargill to build 60 MMgy biodiesel plant in Wichita, Kansas


Cargill announced plans Sept. 21 to build a 60 MMgy biodiesel plant in Wichita, Kansas. The facility is expected to cost $90 million and open in early 2019. Construction will begin this December. This will be Cargill's third U.S. biodiesel plant.

Solfuels USA begins loading railcars, trucks with biodiesel


Solfuels USA, a newly retrofitted 40 MMgy biodiesel plant in Helena, Arkansas, is now making commercial sales of biodiesel. In September the plant loaded its first trucks and railcars of fuel, and discharged its first barge of soybean oil.

Federal grant to help MSU researchers boost camelina oil yields


Michigan State University will lead a $10 million U.S. DOE grant to explore ways to boost oil yields in camelina. The research team's end goal is to achieve up to a 300 percent increase per acre in oil production for the nonfood oilseed crop.
