Idled biodiesel producer holds hope for quick market turnaround


In August, W2Fuel began idling its two biodiesel plants—a 15 MMgy facility in Adrian, Michigan, and a 10 MMgy plant in Crawfordsville, Iowa—due to poor market conditions. CEO Roy Strom says he plans to restart them when the market turns around.

Eni opens its 2nd large-scale renewable diesel facility in Italy


Operations have begun at Eni’s renewable diesel plant in Gela, Italy, converted from an oil refinery. The plant has the capacity to process up to 750,000 metric tons a year and uses Ecofining technology developed jointly by Eni and Honeywell’s UOP.

10 MMgy biodiesel plant in Delaware going to auction Nov. 13


Maas Companies of Rochester, Minnesota, will auction Chesapeake Green Fuels’ 10 MMgy biodiesel plant in Clayton, Delaware. The surplus assets will be sold via a sealed bid auction. The deadline for offers is Nov. 13 at 4:00 p.m. Central time.

IBB elects Brad Wilson of Western Iowa Energy as new chair


Brad Wilson of Western Iowa Energy, a 45 MMgy biodiesel plant in Wall Lake, was elected the new chair of the Iowa Biodiesel Board. Wilson, who replaces Tom Brooks of Western Dubuque Biodiesel as chair, has been president and GM of WIE since 2016.

Western Dubuque Biodiesel recognized for exemplary safety record


Western Dubuque Biodiesel, a 30 MMgy manufacturing plant in Farley, Iowa, has received recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration for achieving 1 million hours with zero lost-time accidents.

Biodiesel prices up 30 percent in Germany over past month


Wholesale prices for biodiesel have seen a sharp rise since Aug. 14, from 70.5 euro cents per liter ($2.95 per gallon) in mid-August to recently 91.6 euro cents per liter ($3.82 per gallon). This translates to an approximately 30 percent increase.
