IRENA: Liquid biofuels accounted for 2.5M jobs globally in 2019


Jobs in the renewable energy sector reached 11.5 million globally in 2019, according to a report released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on Sept. 29. Bioenergy accounted for 3.58 million jobs, up from 3.18 million in 2018.

House passes bill that aims to increase SRE transparency


The U.S. House of Representatives on Sept. 24 passed the Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act, or H.R. 4447, by a vote of 229 to 187. The bill includes provisions of the Renewable Fuel Standard Integrity Act.

EPA: 7 new SRE petitions filed, including 5 gap year SREs


The U.S. EPA has published updated SRE data that reflects the denial of 54 gap year SRE petitions announced by the agency on Sept. 14. The data also shows seven new SRE petitions have been filed in recent weeks, including five new gap year SREs.

REG breaks ground on wind turbine in Albert Lea, Minnesota


Renewable Energy Group Inc. broke ground on Sept. 21 on a single wind turbine that will provide power to the company’s biorefinery in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The project will be constructed and operated by Minnesota-based Juhl Energy.
