REG to expand Geismar capacity by 250 MMgy


Renewable Energy Group Inc. on Oct. 6 announced plans to expand the annual production capacity of its biorefinery in Geismar, Louisiana, to 340 MMgy. The 250 MMgy expansion project is expected to be complete by late 2023.

USDA names recipients of $22 million in HBIIP awards


The USDA on Oct. 8 announced an initial round of awards under its $100 million Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program. The agency awarded $22 million to 40 recipients in 14 states. Additional awards are expected to be announced soon.

Manitoba seek comments on proposed increase to biofuel mandates


The Manitoba government is proposing to increase the required renewable content in gasoline to 10 percent and the required renewable content in diesel to 5 percent, effective Jan. 1. A 45-day comment period on the proposal is now open.

USDA: US soybean ending stocks down 42% from September 2019


The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released its latest quarterly Grain Stocks report on Sept. 30, reporting that old crop soybeans stored in all positions on Sept. 1 totaled 523 million bushels, down 47 percent from a year ago.

USDA increases forecast for 2020-’21 soybean oil use in biodiesel


The USDA reduced its forecast for 2020-’21 soybean production in the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released Oct. 9. The forecast for soybean oil use in biodiesel production, however, was increased slightly.

US biodiesel exports top 70,628 metric tons in August


The U.S. exported 70,628.1 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of greater than B30 in August, up from 48,053.8 metric tons in July and 41,030.2 metric tons in August 2019, according to data released by the USDA FAS on Oct. 6.
