Gulf Hydrocarbon expanding services for Mexican market

Houston's Gulf Hydrocarbon will now be offering biodiesel at the RTW Terminal in Brownsville, Texas, with plans to serve a developing market in Mexico. Acquisition to increase Crown Iron Works' exposure in Europe

There are basically two ways to extract oil from soybeans. One is a mechanical means, crushing or pressing them with extruders or other machines. The other way is to "flatten" the beans, treat them with hexane, an oil absorbing chemical and then extract the oil from solution. Crown Iron Works Co. of Minneapolis has offered oil crushing and extraction technology for years, but now has a different "route to reach the same end" by acquiring a similar system from Hamburg, Germany's Harburg Freudenberger.READ MORE

RSB moves ahead on sustainability standards

Two issues-greenhouse gas (GHG) emission thresholds and indirect land use-are still being studied as the Roundtable for Sustainable Biofuels begins the new year in anticipation of having its certification system completed by the end of 2010. Biodiesel tax credit set to expire causing turmoil, complexities

If the U.S. Senate does not pass the biodiesel tax credit extension before it adjourns tomorrow-which probably will be the case-the earliest the industry could see a possible vote is January 19, said Alicia Clancy of Renewable Energy Group Inc., in a conversation with Biodiesel Magazine this morning.READ MORE
