On Feb. 24, Pellet Fuels Institute Executive Director Tim Portz, Board Chairman John Utter and Past-Chair Stephen Faehner testified at the OMB about the impact to pellet manufacturers of the inclusion of minimum pellet fuel requirements in the NSPS.
The U.S. EPA delivered a proposed rule to the White House Office of Management and Budget on Feb. 24 focused on the treatment of biogenic carbon dioxide emissions under the Clean Air Act's permitting programs.

Leaders from the U.K.'s biomass heat industry have called on the chancellor for support ahead of the spring budget to help government meet heat decarbonisation targets, address climate change and deliver on its 30 million tree planting initiative.
President Trump on Feb. 13 nominated Douglas Benevento to serve as deputy administrator of the U.S. EPA and Mark Wesley Menezes to serve as deputy secretary of energy. Both nominations are subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 870,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in October, with sales reaching 850,000 tons.

Pinnacle Renewable Energy, a wood pellet producer based in Canada, relies on Prodesa expertise for the design, manufacturing and commissioning of a low temperature belt dryer for its new wood pellet plant in High Level, Alberta.
The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service released data on Feb. 6 reporting that the U.S. exported 541,893.4 metric tons of wood pellets in December, bringing total pellet exports for 2019 to 6.89 million tons.

Skeena Bioenergy responds to local pellet shortage

Skeena Bioenergy, the owner of a 75,000-metric-ton-per-year wood pellet plant located in Terrace, British Columbia, announced on Jan. 28 plans to donate pellets to local residents in response to a local shortage of home heating fuel.
A final rule under review by the OMB is expected remove certain minimum requirements for pellet fuel contained in current EPA regulations for residential wood heaters and provide retailers with additional time to sell certain wood heating appliances.
German energy company Innogy has sold a biomass cogeneration plant and adjacent wood pellet plant to Austria-based Cycleenergy Holding GmbH. The company also recently announced its U.S. pellet plant is operating above nameplate capacity.

The Department of Energy on Jan. 23 announced it will award up to $96 million for bioenergy research and development to reduce the price of drop-in biofuels, lower the cost of biopower, and enable high-value products from biomass or waste resources.

The Bureau of Land Management has published a notice focused on eligibility and selection criteria for a program that provides woody biomass from BLM and Forest Service lands to support tribal and Alaskan Native biomass demonstraton projects.
Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc., a wood pellet producer based in Canada, recently announced company representatives attended a christening and launching ceremony for a ship Pinnacle is chartering to transport wood chips to Japan.
The U.K. recently released third quarter 2019 energy statistics, reporting the renewables share of electricity generation reached a record 38.9 percent during the quarter, up from 32.9 percent during the same period of 2018.

The U.S. exported 777,976.5 tons of wood pellets in November, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Jan. 7. Exports were up when compared to both the previous month and November 2018.
