ADM teams with MGSC, ISGS for carbon sequestration

February 5, 2008

Archer Daniels Midland Co. has teamed with the Midwest Geological Sequestration Consortium and the Illinois State Geological Survey to capture and store carbon dioxide from the company's ethanol plant in Decatur, Ill. In this project, wells will be drilled into the Mount Simon Sandstone, a rock formation with great potential for sequestering large volumes of carbon dioxide, at a depth of more than 6,500 feet. Carbon dioxide from the Decatur plant will be injected into the wells, and the safety and effectiveness of the storage will be monitored by MGSC.
