March 15, 2007

According to the New York-based Energy Management Institute, biodiesel is now 29.2 percent more cost-competitive than its hydrocarbon counterpart crude oil. The study was conducted by analyzing three years of pricing collected from more than 80 urban areas in the United States. It quantified advances in process technology and market efficiency that have been achieved since 2004. The study showed that ethanol, natural gas, electricity and propane were also more cost-competitive than crude oil.
