A Minnesota biodiesel producer has become the second company to earn the BQ-9000 seal of approval as both an accredited producer and certified marketer. FUMPA Biofuels in Redwood Falls, Minn., became a certified marketer recently to make sure the handling of the fuel through its distribution service also met high standards. 
 
 BQ-9000, the industry's voluntary quality control program, includes procedures for fuel production, storage, handling and management aimed at ensuring fuel quality from plant to tank. 
 
 Company officials said FUMPA Biofuels understands that although producing biodiesel to ASTM D 6751 specification is critical, equally critical is proper handling and blending of the fuel after it leaves the plant. Having producers and marketers increasingly adhere to BQ-9000 parameters helps to ensure that each company has a process in place to prevent contamination, use additives properly and engage in good blending practices. All these things together equate to the consumer having a positive experience.
 
 There are currently 14 BQ-9000 accredited producers and four certified marketers. Peter Cremer North America is the only other company besides FUMPA to earn both titles. All major biodiesel producers in Minnesota are accredited producers or certified marketers under the industry quality control program. The other BQ-9000 accredited biodiesel producers are Minnesota Soybean Processors and SoyMor Biodiesel.
