Ohio based Cognis' Corp., through its QTA System business, announced Jan. 28 it is now offering QTA On-Demand to help small or new biodiesel plants with effective quality and process testing.

Biodiesel plant personnel send a raw sample of B100 to Cognis' QTA, which then tests the sample using proven infrared technology. The QTA On-Demand measures all of the necessary parameters required to assess the quality of a B100 batch, including free and total glycerin, acid number, cloud point, moisture and methanol content.

Within 24 hours, the results are e-mailed to the customer; if sent to a full ASTM lab, the process can take up to two weeks and cost twice as much.

"While plants all over the world use our QTA System to keep their B100 in spec, the level of investment does not always make sense for every plant," said Barbara Stefl, Cognis' Global Business Director. "Now, with QTA On-Demand, smaller plants or ones just starting up can take advantage of the accuracy and fast turnaround of the QTA System's patented approach to biodiesel quality testing on an as-needed basis."
