DTN, the Omaha, Neb.-based market news and information company, has announced another tool aimed at serving ethanol producers and investors. The company's ProphetX trading tool, which is available for the commodity, energy and financial trading markets, now features a version specifically for ethanol.

ProphetX Ethanol Edition provides real-time information, analytical commentary, advanced trading tools and industry-specific production planning and risk management tools, according to DTN.

"DTN ProphetX Ethanol Edition is a comprehensive solution for the growing biofuels market," said DTN CEO Robert Gordon. "Our goal is to make it easy for ethanol producers and traders to see the real-time market activity, industry news and information that are impacting the market. We are committed to providing the tools and resources that analyze trends and help avoid risk to help our customers make smarter purchasing, planning and management decisions."

The ethanol-specific version of ProphetX is expected to help producers and investors manage market volatility. Comprehensive coverage of futures, spot and rack prices, and cash grain bids allows for price discovery. As a result, traders know if they received a fair price, where prices are headed and what local markets are doing with ethanol-specific futures and rack price data.

The Ethanol Edition monitors input and output prices in real-time to allow investors to forecast, find opportunities and conduct financial planning. As a risk and plant management tool, the Ethanol Edition helps create customized "what if" scenarios, helping determine a plant's gross margins, hedges and exposed production risk. This allows producers to make feedstock purchases and project or fix revenues from ethanol and distillers grains.
