Eastman increases biodiesel blends

October 16, 2007

Eastman Chemical Co. began fueling its entire locomotive fleet with B20, the company announced in early August. Its five locomotives, which handle an average of 12,000 railcars each month at the company's Kingsport, Tenn., facility, had used B10 since July without trouble. The locomotives, owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc., will use over 200,000 gallons of B20 per year, according to Betty Payne of Eastman's corporate communications. This increase, combined with the B10 to B30 usage in Eastman's approximately 350 heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, will push the company's total annual consumption of B20 over 600,000 gallons.
