EISA study addresses biodiesel

May 14, 2008

A white paper released by Context Network LLC, titled "A Review of the Energy Independence & Security Act of 2007, and its Impact on U.S. Grains and Oilseeds Production," reported mixed results concerning biodiesel's future. According to the paper, biodiesel supply should meet the requirements set forth by EISA in the short term (2008 to 2010) and medium term (2011 to 2015), but the biofuel still remains the most vulnerable. The paper's principle author Jim Murphy pointed to feedstock as its main hurdle. He said biodiesel will continue to be a niche fuel, requiring government subsidies to exist.
