Ethanol-powered Saab wins science award

February 1, 2006

Saab's ethanol-powered 9-5 BioPower has been honored with a "Best of What's New" award from Popular Science in an annual ranking of 100 breakthrough products and technologies that represent a significant leap in their categories. The vehicle, which is only sold in Sweden, runs on E85. "It is a privilege to be listed on this prestigious list," Saab spokesman Tom Beaman said. Although Saab has no plans to release the 9-5 BioPower in the United States, the company is debuting a concept car—a 2.3-liter, 310-horsepower version of the BioPower—at car shows in Los Angeles and Detroit in 2006.
