FTC issues rulemaking on biodiesel pump labels

April 15, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission has proposed to amend Fuel Rating Rule 16 CFR, Part 306 to include rating, certification and labeling requirements for biodiesel fuel, as required by the Energy Independence & Security Act of 2007. The changes wouldn't require labels for fuels less than B5, but would require a single label for B5 to B20 blends and a separate label for fuels greater than B20. The proposed rule also incorporates new or amended definitions for terms such as "biomass-based diesel," "biodiesel" and "automotive fuel."
