Greenlight Biofuels explosion kills worker

July 14, 2008

A contractor died in an explosion May 18 at Greenlight Biofuels LLC in Princess Anne, Md. Two workers, one an employee of Michigan-based Diversified Mechanical Service Inc. and the other a subcontractor, were welding pipes at the idled plant when the explosion occurred. One worker died, and the other was uninjured. While the exact cause of the explosion is being investigated, Allen Cunningham, president of Greenlight Biofuels, said the safety features of the plant worked as designed. The 4 MMgy multi-feedstock biodiesel plant started production in November 2007.
