Huntsman to produce propylene glycol

June 21, 2007

As part of Huntsman Corp.'s sustainable chemistry initiative, the company recently began customer trials of its biobased propylene glycol-which it produced from glycerin, a byproduct of biodiesel production--that can be used to make airplane deicer and plastics, among other things. Currently, the chemical is made from propylene derived from petroleum. "We're looking to scale up production and start serving the market in 2008," said Don Stanutz, president of the company's performance products division.
