NRDC: RFS credits should be based on performance

August 1, 2006

Nathaniel Greene, senior policy analyst for the National Resources Defense Council, is urging the U.S. EPA to calculate renewable fuels standard (RFS) credits based on the environmental benefits and displacement of petroleum, as opposed to Btu values, which is one option being considered. "The RFS credit should involve a lifecycle analysis based on the performance we want out of renewable fuels, and that is decreased oil dependence and reduced greenhouse gases."
