PhibroChem's Ethanol Performance Group has opened a new lab at the University Enterprise Labs in St. Paul, Minn., expanding its research and development capabilities. The company's new laboratory facilities which contain state-of-the-art equipment, as well as new customer service facilities opened in mid-March.
PhibroChem, a division of Phibro Animal Health Corp., provides products for ethanol, paint and coatings, personal care, and metal finishing industries. PhibroChem says the new laboratory will focus on products and process solutions for the ethanol fermentation industry. Paul Juranek, marketing manager of PhibroChem, said it's a priority to stay ahead of the game. "The (ethanol) industry is growing. It's going to double in the next year to two years just in terms of production capacity," he said.
"This is a significant investment for our company," he added. "One of the reasons we're making this investment is, as the industry grows, [there is a need] for faster and faster turn-around time for our customers." Juranek said customer service is vital to the company and the investment in equipment will add to the efficiency of customer support.
Juranek said the new lab is a first-class facility for training customers, both in a classroom and in a hands-on environment. The facility has a very attractive look, Juranek said. "(It's) very modern and very beautiful architecture," he said. "(It will be a very) positive environment to train the future leaders of the industry."
UEL is a nonprofit, public-private partnership created to provide laboratory space for early stage bioscience companies, and provide research opportunities for faculty and students. The Minnesota bioscience facility has 29 tenant companies that employ more than 250 people.
