Pinnacle Biofuels Inc. began producing biodiesel May 12 at its new 10 MMgy plant at Crosset, Ark. Locally owned by four businessmen, Pinnacle uses a continuous-flow, fully-automated and waterless processing system from Greenline Industries.
The plant has also accomplished using 75 percent chicken fat blended with soybean oil. Plant manager Brad Dobson reports the plant has been running about 85 percent poultry fat feedstock, which is acquired from three poultry processing plants, the closest being 30 miles away and the other two are about 80 miles away. Using high proportions of animal fats is a key strategy, Dobson said. "There's no way we could stay in business using 100 percent vegetable oils."
With truck and rail access, Pinnacle Biofuels has 475,000 gallons of feedstock storage on site and 375,000 gallons of biodiesel storage. Pinnacle Biofuels is the first biodiesel plant in southeastern Arkansas, and the third in Arkansas to go on line.
