Scientists study effects of ethanol in automobile exhaust and emissions

October 1, 2003

Two scientists at the University of California-Riverside's College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) were awarded over $800,000 from the Coordinating Research Council Inc. to study the impact of fuel properties on emissions for gasoline blends containing ethanol. Drs. Tom Durbin and J. Wayne Miller will undertake the one-year study. The objective of the research project is to gain data that can be used to predict the effects of ethanol content and gasoline volatility on new vehicle models' exhaust emissions.
