Study explores increased ethanol yield

Brent Shanks, an Iowa State University associate professor of chemical and biological engineering, is leading a research project to develop chemical catalysts that can break up corn. Funded by the USDA, the new process could boost the amount of simple sugar in corn that can be fermented into ethanol. The distillers grains from this new process also yields higher levels of protein.
