The September Issue - A Preview

August 5, 2009

BY Ron Kotrba

I thought I'd use this opportunity to share what feature articles we have coming out in the September issue. It's a pretty sound lineup. The September issue has historically been our project development and proposed plant issue, but it's a little different than it has been in the past. Mainly, we are not including a proposed plant list-not because there aren't any proposed projects, but because a good number of them are "on hold" until this economy turns around and the recession has ended; when banks start lending again and when the RFS2 rule is certain and final.

September was always the month for this because in the print magazine world you work a couple of months in advance, so when research for the stories would be going on, it would be late spring or early summer-the height of the construction season.

In this year's September issue associate editor Nicholas Zeman writes an interesting story about the landscape of today's proposed biodiesel projects. He also penned an article on biodiesel price discovery. Assistant editor Sue Retka Schill wrote two features as well, one on recent plant startups, which she titled "New Systems and Strategies," which really says it all; and another article on how Big Oil is taking a look-or not-at purchasing biodiesel plants to help them more cost effectively meet their obligations under the RFS.

The issue will go on line mid August so check it out when it goes live.
