Tri-State Biodiesel receives sustainability award nomination

October 14, 2008

In September, New York City-based Tri-State Biodiesel LLC was named one of 12 finalists for the Social Venture Network's second annual Innovation Awards, which are given to companies whose practices positively impact the environment and/or society. Six award winners will be named at an award ceremony in late October. Tri-State collects yellow grease, a waste product, from New York City restaurants for biodiesel production. At press time, the company was shipping its feedstock to Ohio-based JatroDiesel for processing while Tri-State worked to complete its own production facility in Brooklyn, which recently stalled because of financing issues. Tri-State also supplied biodiesel for this year's annual 9/11 memorial in New York City. Generators that powered the light display were fueled with B20.
