A new industry book, Biodiesel America, was launched by author Josh Tickell during Monday's general session and also at an evening book signing reception. Another launch of sorts took place with a major fleet announcement at the Tuesday general session.
Sysco, the leading food distributor and one of the largest private not-for-hire trucking fleets in the United States, announced it was using B5 in hundreds of trucks. DaimlerChrysler also discussed its recent decision to specifically cover the use of B20 in the 2007 model year Dodge Ram pickup truck for government, military and commercial fleets (see page 24).
Other general session speakers included NBB Chairman Darryl Brinkmann and Thomas Dorr of the USDA Energy Council, who discussed "Great Strides for Biodiesel." All conference attendees received some of the biodiesel star treatment as they were able to drive the newest offerings by diesel automakers Volkswagen, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors, including the Dodge Ram, Volkswagen Jetta, Jeep Liberty and Chevrolet Savannah.
