The USDA on June 26 awarded nearly $100 million in loans and grants to 473 projects under the Renewable Energy for America Program. A Tennessee-based biodiesel producer is among the recipients selected for grant awards.

American Green Fuels Rockwood Tennessee LLC was awarded a $13,571 grant to support the development of an energy efficiency system improvement for their operations. According to the USDA, the biodiesel producer will use the funds to replace current fluorescent lighting with LED lights to improve operational efficiency and working conditions. The project is expected to save the business $10,464 per year and will replace 148,038 kWh per year, which is enough electricity to power 164 homes.
