Orbit Energy Inc., a renewable energy technology company, has appointed Neal Whitley as leader of business development.

Whitley has 25 years of business and product development experience. In his new position, Whitley will coordinate investor relations, corporate partnerships and government relations for the company; and will work with university systems and their renewable energy initiatives. Whitley will also focus on the creation of partnerships with public and private organizations to assist with waste and energy needs.

Orbit Energy owns a proprietary waste-to-energy technology that was originally developed by the U.S. DOE. The company has a plant in Clinton, N.C., that has effectively demonstrated converting biomass into energy. The technology converts a wide range of solid organic material such as food waste, yard trimmings, paper, cardboard, swine waste, and other animal manure into bio-methane and nitrogen-rich compost. The methane can be used to run a generator to create electricity, or upgraded to pipeline quality natural gas. The compost can be sold for agricultural or industrial uses. Orbit plans to build two plants by 2010 and 45 plants by 2017.
