Enzymatic biodiesel plant in St. Joseph, Missouri, sold
Ocean Park Advisors announced July 20 that its client, Terra Biodiesel Holding LLC, closed the sale of its biodiesel plant located in St. Joseph, Missouri, to an undisclosed strategic buyer. OPA acted as exclusive advisor to Terra Biodiesel Holding.
In 2011, Biodiesel Magazine reported that Blue Sun Biodiesel acquired the then-idled former Terra Bioenergy LLC facility in St. Joseph, which was subsequently upgraded with enzymatic processing technology. The facility earned BQ-9000 certification in 2014.
The plant originally began construction in 2008 and was designed to produce 15 MMgy, later expanding to 30 MMgy.
Financial terms of the current transaction were not disclosed. According to OPA, the assets include a biodiesel refinery situated on an approximately 13-acre parcel of land. The sale also includes a license agreement for certain production technologies.
“OPA was instrumental in developing both operating and sales strategies,” said David Warfield, partner of Thompson Coburn LLP, which represented Terra. “Their mergers and acquisitions expertise, understanding of the biodiesel sector and industry relationships contributed to this successful transaction.”
Bruce Comer, an OPA managing director, said the sale marks the 21st successful biofuels transaction for the firm.
“We are extremely pleased with the successful closing,” said John Campbell, another OPA managing director. “The biodiesel industry has strong momentum and is being consolidated into stronger hands as we move forward.”
