EPA: 1.4 billion RINs generated in January

The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for January, reporting that more than 1.4 billion RINs were generated during the month, down from 1.57 billion generated during the same month of 2020.

More than 4.44 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in January, including 3.06 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 1.18 million generated for liquified RNG by domestic producers, and 203,252 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Nearly 300.22 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINS were generated in January, including 160.64 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 70.84 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 50.6 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 12.8 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 4.86 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by importers, and 463,720 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.  

Nearly 19.42 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in January, including 14.8 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 2.43 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 1.92 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, and 277,332 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.

Nearly 1.08 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in January, including 1.07 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 5.69 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.01 million generated for ethanol by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in January.
