The U.S. EPA has published data on renewable identification numbers (RINs) generated in April. More than 1.08 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated during the month, the highest monthly number reported since August 2012. 

More than 4.08 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated during the first four months of 2013. The vast majority of these RINs were generated for ethanol. However, 152,186 D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated for biodiesel during the four-month timeframe, along with 490,138 D6 RINs for non-ester renewable diesel.

Nearly 162.68 D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated during the first four months of the year, with 28.22 million generated in April alone. The majority of D5 RINs generated in 2013 have been for ethanol. During the first four months of 2013, the EPA reported that 157.04 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated for ethanol production. Approximately 28.94 million of those RINs were generated in April.

To date, no D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs have been generated in 2013. However, 8,332 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated in 2013, all in March.

The EPA estimates that approximately 542.2 million assigned D6 renewable fuel RINs were available as of the close of April, along with nearly 3.34 billion separated D6 RINs. EPA data also shows that on a combined basis, nearly 4.83 billion D4 biomass-based diesel, D5 advanced biofuel and D6 renewable fuel RINs were available as of April.

During the first four months of the year, more than 4.08 billion D6 RINs were generated domestically, with only 490,138 generated in foreign countries. No D6 RINs were described as being generated by importers for the first four months of 2013. However, only 12.71 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated domestically during the four-month time period. An additional 149.97 million D5 RINs were generated by importers.
