UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane process was up during the second half of June. Ethanol production was down for the two-week period, while ethanol sales were up for the full month.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 43 million metric tons of sugarcane during the second half of June, up 2.19 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, has reached 209.79 million metric tons, up 11.51 percent when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season.
According to UNICA, mills in the region produced 1.92 billion liters (507.21 million gallons) of ethanol during the second half of June, down 5.59 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. Production included 1.04 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 10.94 percent, and 874.43 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 1.69 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 225.17 million liters of production, up 19.24 percent, or approximately 12 percent of total production during the two-week period.

Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 9.6 billion liters, up 6.17 percent, including 5.49 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 5.69 percent, and 4.11 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 27.63 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 1.36 billion liters of production, up 41.19 percent.
Mills in the south-central region sold 2.51 billion liters of ethanol in June, up 1.37 percent when compared to the same month of last year. Sales included 1.11 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 7.95 percent, and 1.4 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 3.33 percent. Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 7.02 billion liters, down 0.37 percent, including 3.93 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 9.13 percent, and 3.09 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 13.53 percent.
