Biomaterial concept car to make debut at motor show

A concept car made of biobased materials has a scheduled appearance at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2014.
A multi-partner project between UPM , Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and 15 others, the Biofore concept car is made of UPM’s Formi and Grada biobased materials. In addition to being built from UPM’s biobased products, the car will operate using UPM’s wood-derived renewable diesel, BioVerno.
The car will be exhibited at the world-class industry event to attract international attention to the vehicle, the partners and students involved in the project. “From the very beginning we have aimed to showcase the car in Geneva. In fact, we have phased the project accordingly,” stated Pekka Hautala, technology manager from Metropolia. “The car has recently been painted and we are proceeding well with the interior.”

“Sustainable innovations, close cooperation with future professionals and renewing with courage, have made the concept car a fine manifestation of our Biofore thinking.
