Anderson, Ind.-based Remy International Inc. is now giving support to one of 17 Challenge X teams. Remy, a manufacturer and distributor of Delco Remy brand heavy-duty systems and Remy diesel engines and hybrid power technology, is providing engineering expertise and long-term sponsorship for the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Challenge X is a three-year national competition in which university teams re-engineer a GM Equinox to minimize environmental impact using alternative fuel technologies. Remy's electrical engineers will advise Rose-Hulman's team on the latest technologies for electric motors, generators and advanced vehicle propulsion.
The Challenge X competition recently finished its first year. The university of Waterloo's fuel cell hybrid design took top honors, while the University of Akron's through-the-road parallel hybrid, which runs on biodiesel, took second. For more information on Challenge X, visit
