Chevron Renewable Energy Group has idled its biodiesel plants located in Ralston, Iowa, and Madison, Wisconsin. A company spokesperson confirmed that the two facilities will be closed indefinitely, citing poor market conditions.

“This was not an easy decision, and we will support our employees during this difficult time,” said the spokesperson in an emailed statement. “We remain committed to our belief that the future of energy is lower carbon and advocate for supportive policy that will enable growth of the biofuels sector.”

The 30 MMgy Ralston facility began operations in 2002. According Chevron REG, the facility was the first REG biodiesel plant. The 20 MMgy Madison facility began operations in 2007.
