EIA: Ethanol production up 1%, stocks up slightly

U.S. fuel ethanol production was up nearly 1 percent the week ending Sept. 1, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 7. Ethanol stocks were up slightly, with exports up nearly 19 percent. 

Fuel ethanol production averaged 1.012 million barrels per day the week ending Sept. 1, up 5,000 barrels per day when compared to the 1.007 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, production for the week ending Sept. 1 was up 23,000 barrels per day. 

Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol reached 21.621 million barrels the week ending Sept. 1, up 12,000 barrels when compared to the 21.609 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending Sept. 1 were down 1.517 million barrels.

Exports of fuel ethanol averaged 82,000 barrels per day the week ending Sept. 1, up 13,000 barrels per day when compared to the 69,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week.  Data on weekly ethanol exports is not available for the corresponding week of 2022 as the EIA began reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. Fuel ethanol imports averaged 22,000 barrels per day the week ending Sept. 1, marking the first U.S. imports of fuel ethanol since December 2022.
