The U.S. EPA approved an efficient producer petition by Homeland Energy Solutions LLC for a fuel pathway at its production facility in Lawler, Iowa. The pathway allows Homeland to generate renewable fuel renewable identification numbers (RINs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard for non-grandfathered ethanol produced. The ethanol is produced through a dry mill process using corn starch as feedstock.
During the petition process Homeland submitted data to the EPA to perform a lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) analysis of the fuel produced through the Homeland Lawler Process. The analysis needed to satisfy the 20 percent lifecycle GHG reduction requirement applicable to non-grandfathered renewable fuel and all conditions set by the RFS regulations.
The data submitted by Homeland Energy Solutions shows its 140 MMgy plant achieves a 26.1 percent GHG reduction when compared to baseline gasoline. A typical natural gas-fired drill mill plant producing 100 percent dry distillers grains achieves a 16.8 percent reduction.
