Canada-based Imperial Oil Ltd. on May 2 confirmed that construction on the renewable diesel facility at its Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Alberta, will be complete during the second quarter. The project is expected to begin operations in mid-2025.
Imperial Oil in mid-2021 announced plans to construct a 20,000-barrel-per-day renewable diesel complex at its Strathcona refinery. The company made a final investment decision in January 2023, with construction beginning soon after. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to have the capacity to produce more than 1 billion liters (264.17 million gallons) of renewable diesel annually.

During a first quarter earnings call, Imperial Oil Chairman and CEO brad Corson said the company expects construction to be complete on the renewable diesel project “shortly here in the second quarter,” with operations expected to begin with in the coming months.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its forecast for 2025 and 2026 biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released July 8.

The USDA’s Risk Management Agency is implementing multiple changes to the Camelina pilot insurance program for the 2026 and succeeding crop years. The changes will expand coverage options and provide greater flexibility for producers.
