Following the California cities of San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek and Carlsbad, Sacramento County is also making the fuel switch from petroleum to renewable diesel for its heavy-duty fleet vehicles.

Sacramento County will use Neste Corp.’s renewable diesel in range of applications, the Finnish fuel company announced, including more than 400 municipal public works and specialty vehicles.

“Many government agencies and private corporations worldwide are now looking for ways to reduce emissions and carbon footprint,” said Kaisa Hietala, executive vice president of renewable products at Neste. “In the U.S., California is leading the way.”

Keith Leech, the chief of Sacramento County’s fleet division and parking, said, “Sacramento County is proud to be recognized among the leading and most sustainable public fleets in the country. Migrating to Neste renewable diesel provides us immediate huge gains in carbon emissions reduction that we could not otherwise achieve without significantly increased investments in alternative fueled vehicles and infrastructure.”
