The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for September, announcing 1.67 billion RINs were generated during the month. A net total of nearly 14.26 billion RINs were generated during the first nine months of the year.
Nearly 394.88 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in September, bringing the net total for the first three quarters of the year to 2.75 billion. The majority, 2.23 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 518.76 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 1.53 million generated for renewable jet fuel. More than 2.02 billion D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 484.94 million generated by importers and 241.98 million generated by foreign entities.

More than 4.95 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in September, bringing the net total for the first nine months of the year to nearly 79.14 million. More than 54.54 million D5 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 17.73 million generated for naptha, 1.04 million for heating oil, and 5.9 million for nonester renewable diesel. Nearly 44.84 million D5 RINs have been generated domestically, with 34.39 million generated by importers.
More than 17.44 million D3 cellulosic RINs were generated in September, bringing the net total for the first nine months of the year to 125.17 million. More than 2.84 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 73.79 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 50.37 million for renewable liquefied natural gas. Nearly 113.26 million D3 RINS have been generated domestically, with 13.75 million generated by importers.

According to the EPA, 99,563 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in September, bringing the net total for the first three quarters of the year to 204,442. All D7 RINs generated so far this year have been generated for cellulosic heating oil by importers.
More than 1.25 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in September, bringing the net total for the first three quarters of the year to 11.31 billion. Most, 11 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 107.19 million generated for biodiesel, 205.9 million for nonester renewable diesel and 126,227 for butanol. More than 10.99 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 115.34 million generated by importers and 205.9 million generated by foreign entities.
The EPA estimates more than 14.21 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 558.75 million retired, 845.12 million locked and available and 12.87 billion unlocked and available.
