U.K.-based Vertas Group Ltd. has acquired a majority stake in MMB Environmental, a million-pound waste management and pest control business. Services provided by Vertas Group include catering, cleaning, grounds maintenance, energy and property management, and more.

Vertas Group provides catering for approximately 400 schools and MMB Environmental—now being rebranded as Vertas Environmental—has been converting the used cooking oil into biodiesel since 2016. The company says it plans to continue this practice and use the biodiesel to power its grounds-maintenance equipment, such as lawnmowers and hedge trimmers.

MMB Environmental is being rebranded as Vertas Environmental, and the company says its next sustainability priority is removing as much plastic as possible from its catering division.

“Through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions, Vertas Group has already developed a diverse range of services from energy to passenger transport,” said CEO Ian Surtees. “The formation of Vertas Environmental completes a missing link and allows us to add bolt-on services to both new and existing clients. Waste management is a growth area for us and should lead to job creation wherever we secure new contracts. This acquisition takes us one step further to our goal of being a total facilities management provider. Having this in-house capability will ensure a seamless service to clients.”
